EAL Resource Centre

As some of you may already know, the funding for EAL children changed in September 2006. The emphasis has now been placed on inclusion within the classroom rather than the tutors giving the children one to one support as in previous years. To help aid and support teachers with children with English as an Additional Language as much as possible, three “hub” schools have been set up in each region of Cheshire. As part of this, Dean Oaks Primary (formerly known as Dean Row Junior School) is the local Hub School for East Cheshire and will be there to help with resources and advice.

We have created a catalogue of resources, you are welcome to borrow these resources on a half termly basis. This will be done initially as a trial period, due the expense of the resources themselves. We would like to continue lending, but will need your support in this, making sure that items are returned at the allotted time.

A catalogue of all of our resources has been included in this initial pack. Within the catalogue, we have included where the resources have been purchased and their cost should you wish to buy the items yourselves at a later date. As well as bought resources, we also have a “Teacher Help Pack” which is designed to get you through the first few weeks. This contains helpful tips and advice, as well as flash cards and fans which can be used by both adults and the child. This pack is non-returnable and will be sent out as soon as you contact us.

The EAL Resource Centre at Dean Row will be open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday every week during the day. You can peruse the resources as well as ask advice. Please contact either Katie Goodwin, Sue Welch, Binnie Thompson or Atsuko Koido to arrange a visit. Contact us.

We have tried to provide resources for most languages in Cheshire so far, but it is impossible to cater for everyone. If we don’t have the language of your child we will try our hardest to get some resources, but we can only order languages which are available. It is also worth contacting the Education Library in Winsford as they have many Dual Language books, which can be used.

We look forward to hearing from you soon.
